Where the vegetable fields thrive

Wals-Siezenheim is located north of the Untersberg mountain in the basin of Salzburg and has been one of the main vegetable growers in the Salzburger Land ever since. The ideal climatic conditions with enough precipitation, sun and south foehn let vegetables thrive. Carrots, cabbage, cucumbers, kohlrabi, salad, potatoes… a variety rich in vitamins is grown in this area. Direct marketing has a long tradition in Wals-Siezenheim and this is why the farmers’ products can not only be found in their own shops but also on Salzburg’s markets such as the Schranne or the Grünmarkt.

Did you know?

Even your host family at the Grünauerhof, the Eisl family, has been running a farm for over 120 years and can therefore use fresh products from their own fields and stables. Meat and vegetables from our own production are a main reason for the good taste in our restaurant.

Sports & leisure

Nestled in green surroundings, your starting point for activities and excursions around Wals-Siezenheim could hardly be better. You can start your tours in the extensive network of cycle paths directly in Wals. Cycle for miles along the Saalach and Salzach rivers, take a leisurely 30-minute ride into the centre of Salzburg, or take a more challenging ride around the Untersberg or tackle a mountain bike route. Cyclists have the best possibilities around Wals and Salzburg. Even hikers’ hearts rejoice: In the Berchtesgadener Land and around the city of Salzburg you can find the most beautiful tours to alpine huts, to mountain summits and through gorges. You can also go out for a quick run before you relax at the pool in the garden of our hotel.

There is also a wide range of activities for families. How about a game of soccergolf, summer tobogganing on the Dürrnberg in Hallein or a visit to Salzburg Zoo and the Großgmain open-air museum? Not to mention the sights in the city of Mozart, from great museums to the trick fountains in Hellbrunn to a boat trip with the Salzach ship.

The Bachschmiede - culture in Wals

Culturally, Wals-Siezenheim offers a fine event location with the Bachschmiede. The heart of the house is a small museum on forging art. An event hall and an art hall regularly become a meeting place for creative artists and those interested in culture. The programme includes cabarets, concerts and various exhibitions.
